Melissa Mullen, MSN, RN, CRN

Nursing Practice Specialist, Learning Lab and Simulation Center
Melissa Mullen is a member of the Learning Lab team at the Slavin Academy, where she creates and facilitates interprofessional simulation and skills sessions throughout MGH. She also promotes quality and safety by leading CRICO-funded simulation drills in procedural areas across MGH and at multiple Mass General Brigham facilities.
Simulation has always been a passion for Melissa. For the last 6 years she has been an active member of the interdisciplinary Contrast Emergency Management Sim Team for the Department of Radiology. During that time, she was adjunct clinical faculty and a simulation instructor for Boston College and Endicott College, creating and facilitating virtual and live nursing simulation experiences centered on critical care, emergency care, and end-of-life.
Melissa’s extensive clinical background includes 15 years in the MGH Emergency Department and 10 years in Interventional Radiology (IR), the last 6 of which were in the role of Nurse Practice Specialist overseeing the orientation and continued education of her IR and Imaging teams. During the pandemic, Melissa focused her time educating and preparing multiple teams for deployment for three pop-up COVID-19 surge-ICUs that she helped open and support during waves one and two.
Trained in Critical Incident Stress Management and Debriefing, and as a Peer Supporter, she routinely debriefs individuals and teams during and after traumatic events. Passionate about education and promoting best practices, Melissa is a contributing author and editor for the Journal of Radiology Nursing and presents yearly at the annual Association of Radiologic and Imaging (ARIN) Conference.
